Inferno Triathlon + Halbmarathon 2016 (Inferno Team Trophy)

Rade: As usual, before the race I woke up just on time to switch off the ring tone. Fresh morning, outside darkness, silence, but not for long. As I walked through the camp side, many lights were on. Fellow triathletes were getting ready for the Inferno triathlon. I had to wait a bit for the bus and jumped into the second one. At the bus station I met another triathlete, who told me that this time there would be a swim. This one was his third inferno, and two times the swim was cancelled. Good sign, we expected no big waves, but the water temperature was about 17 deg. When we arrived, two fellow Rockets were already there. Davide had to take the ship and wait for me at the other side of the lake. I had to swim 3.1 km. The orientation was the castle at the other side: it looked far, far away. I registered, quickly got ready and entered the cold water. Suddenly, I lost my breath for a moment. The water was so cold that I forgot about the pain I had. Just a weak ago, I slept and hit my ribs at right hand side. The pain was there and I could not stretch my hand fully, but I could swim. I made some strokes, found the position at the side, looked at the illuminated castle and waited for the start. Bang. Here we go. Shallow water for about 200 m with small waves. I felt confident, found the rhythm and with a few changes of directions, after 50 minutes I spotted flashlights at the coast. That was the place where I had to go in. Finally, in the transition zone, I spotted Davide and gave him the chip. My swim was over. Davide was off for 100 km road bike. The Inferno road bike. Up and down, up and down, a 2000 m climb and furious descends. On the way back I took the ship. In Thun we picked up Nicole. She is a runner. Karl got his mountain bike ready. We had to drive to the mountain bike transition zone. After 4 hours Davide arrived happily, and Karl was off. 30 km mountain bike ride with a very dangerous descent. We had to drive again, this time to the last transition zone, where mountain bikers gave the timing chipsets to runners. After 2 h Karl arrived, covered in mud. So far so good. The last part was the 17 km uphill run. Nicole was off with the smile and we took the cable car to Mürren. The race finished happily a few minutes over 9 hours. Great experience. We were overwhelmed by the feeling of completion.
